PAINTING

Painting I (Robert Andrews)- An A-5 visual diary (or similar) and a pen or pencil (for note taking) - the visual diary will also be used during the semester.  A small range of acrylic paints in 75ml tubes, or similar - e.g. white, black, cool red (crimson), cool blue (pthalo blue), cool yellow (lemon), Payne's grey. A more extensive list will be given out during the first class. - A few bristle brushes - e.g. one each of size 8, 10 & 12 flat-ended bristle. - A water container for cleaning brushes Three sheets of A-2 cartridge paper OR canvas paper,- A pair of scissors, - A cleaning rag, - A recycled ice cream lid, or similar, for use as a mixing palette, - Two bulldog clips

Painting I (Paul Milburn) Plenty of rags;  ice cream size container for water;  palette [eg. large perspex  or  wooden  or  ceramic tile];  brushes [2x size 10 flat bristle hogs hair;  2x size 6 flat bristle hogs hair;  1x size 6-8 synthetic (taklon) pointed brush];  canvas paper [A1 or larger];  A3 sketch book;  paints [75ml - Warm Blue,  Cool Blue,  Warm Red,  Cool Red,  Warm Yellow,  Cool Yellow;  plus  Yellow Ochre,  Burnt Sienna,  Raw Umber,  Paynes Grey,  Titanium White]

Painting I (Nameer Davis) 5 Brushes from size 0 up to 25 mm, palette knife or putty knife, Acrylic paints student quality.  Minimum requirement – red, blue, yellow, black, white, raw umber, Gel medium (gloss or matt), Painting surfaces -  2 sheets of canvas embossed paper A1 size or A3 Canson oil/acrylic painting pad, One litre Water container, Painting cloth or paper towel, Plastic Pallette with large and small recesses for mixing paint, If you think you may have any skin allergies to acrylic paint please bring disposable latex gloves or rubber gloves.

Painting II (Paul Milburn) Small hard bound notebook A4 (unruled plain cartridge paper) for note taking and visual diary/sketchbook;  [You may have many of the following items items already if you have done painting 1];  oil paint - 38ml tubes student quality  [Cerulean Blue,  French Ultramarine,  Lemon Yellow,  Cadmium Yellow (or similar mid yellow),  Alizarin Crimson,  Cadmium Red (or similar warm red), Paynes Grey, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber,  Ivory Black, AND  Titanium White in largest tube you can buy!];  palette;  brushes [mostly hog hair filbert and flat tipped from size 10 to 20];  pure turpentine [gum or odourless];  cotton rags [eg. old sheet torn into pieces];  pallete knife [tapered].

Introductory Watercolour (Mia Clark) 280gsm Watercolour Pad A3 size (Montral is a good brand), Student quality tubes of watercolour paint – red, blue and yellow (DO NOT BUY MARIES OR MONTMATRE), masking tape, scissors, drawing boards, palette, tissues or paper towels, water containers x2, pencil or eraser, brushes small (size 0-2), medium (4-6) and large (8-10) – round and flat brushes.

Introductory Watercolour (Allin Dwyer) Visual diary;  1 sheet 300gsm Watercolour paper (rough – Saunders or Arches);  roll of masking tape;  a good quality watercolour brush (round, No. 8, 10 or 12 – eg. Roymac, imitation sable);  mixing palette;  2 water containers (eg. plastic cups);  2B pencil;  soft eraser;  a box of tissues;  Watercolour paints :  Cadmium Yellow Light,  Yellow Ochre,  Cadmium Red,  Alizarin Crimson,  Ultramarine Blue,  Viridian, Burnt Sienna.

Introductory Watercolour (Penny Gilbert Ng)  In addition to materials you already have ~  Watercolour brushes (You will need good size brushes size 12 with good point and larger either natural hair or synthetic/natural mix a rigger size 0 or 1 and 1 inch flat or larger);  Watercolour Paper (either Saunders or Arches;  Weight & Grade. = 300 gsm rough);  Pigment (I would like you to use Artists quality pigment in preference to Student quality as you achieve better results – Colours :  Quinacridone Gold, Permanent Magenta, French Ultramarine);  Other items ~ Watercolour palette (white in colour with big areas for mixing),  backing board (MDF or Perspex - approx half sheet size),  pencils (2B or 4B),  kneadable eraser or plastic eraser,  old towel,  box of tissues,  water sprayer,  1 large water container,  roll of 18mm masking tape,  note book and pen for note taking,  small sketch book.

Observational Drawing  (Jane James) Pencils [HB – 6B];  two sticks compressed round charcoal;  one medium thick stick willow charcoal;  black drawing ink [that will flow through a pen];  round tapered watercolour brush with good regathering capabilities [ie. No. 6 taklon brush];  nib and nib holder [one pointed split nib];  butchers paper [3 large sheets];  cartridge paper [10 large sheets or A3 sketchbook];  two large, medium rough sheets of paper;  one piece lightweight card [el cheapo is good];  plastic eraser [for pencil];  gum rubber [for charcoal - not the same as a kneadable eraser);  ruler;  rough sandpaper;  found objects for dipping into ink and drawing with [day one].

Observational Drawing (Mia Clark) 2B, 4B, 6B pencils and a sharpener. Preferably, a grey  Faber Castel Kneadable eraser, ruler, A3 pad of cartridge paper,masking tape, A4 display folder for notes and a small or medium sized paper blender (torchon). Other materials needed will be discussed in class.

Imaginative Drawing (Jill Barker) Fine point Artline type pens, Pencils, Tracing paper, Eraser/s, Any pastels, coloured pencils, aquarelles, pen and ink if you have them, Cartridge paper, Drawing block, Sheets of coloured paper (this could be paper you have painted) Scissors or cutting blade, Glue stick, Lots of magazines or other images to cut up and any pieces of textured or unusual paper you’ve collected.

Expressive Drawing (Sandra Ross) 10 sheets university cartridge paper 300gsm approx A3 in size (purchase a block or sheets and cut up);  butchers paper, cartridge paper, A3 visual diary;  pencils or progresso graphite pencils [2B , 4B & 6B]; ink, quill, willow charcoal in variety of thicknesses, a hard eraser,  ruler;  a  flat #6  or #8 hog brushes and any others you have ; acrylic paint (alizarin, paynes grey, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, white and any other colours you might have), Atelier liquefying medium, water container, knife (blade), any of the following if you already have them; pastels, charcoal pencils, conte, compressed charcoal, aquarelle pencils or crayons,  impasto medium.

Introductory Printmaking (Nancy Brown)  [Available from Oxlades3846 0611 fax 3846 0622 www.Oxlades.com.au]:  drypoint plate Mylar [these come in assorted sizes];  papers [BFK Rives;  Arches Vellum 250GSM or other 250gsm printing paper];  acid free tissue paper [5 sheets];  rubber gloves;  clean cotton rags;  large sketchbook and drawing materials;  craft knife;  scissors;  towel;  you will be etching on inexpensive aluminium and copper plates which can be purchased from the tutor as needed.

Fabric Printing (Nancy Brown)  2 metres of cotton or poly-cotton fabric, scissors, rags, rubber or disposable gloves, A4 sketch book plus choice of drawing materials, cutting blade & cutting mat (optional). Please wear closed in shoes

Mosaic & the 3D Form (Karl de Waal) Bring any bits of pebbles or broken things (crockery etc) that you may like to incorporate in your mosaic,   palette knife;  sponge;  rags;  plastic gloves;  a pair of tile nippers (spring action with tungsten tip, $30hardware shops);  safety goggles or glasses;  (mosaic sheets, sealer and grout will be supplied as well as some tools.).

Gold and Silversmithing (Eleisha Nylund) Notebook, pencil and ruler;  wear closed-in shoes and avoid flowing, loose garments;  long hair must be tied up.
